October 2007

Last night we went to see Ben’s play, “Candle in the Darkness.” I totally enjoyed the humor and the excellent acting. It was so funny and real. The son in the play tries to get his mom not to be so zealous as a missionary. I could relate to him so well! Then the mom tells her story. It’s painful.

This morning as I woke up, I was reflecting more on the message. I could definitely relate to the son, like I said. I just really don’t want to annoy people! But what about being like a light in the dark to someone? You might never know if what you might say or do would be exactly that–a candle in the darkness! One knew she was. The other didn’t know that she might have been until it was too late. Hmm, it makes me think of faith–that’s really what it’s about. You have to take a step into the darkness. Kind of scarey, but not doing it could be even more so.

And then there’s a perfect example of repentance! I told Ben last night that I loved it and now I know even more why!

Conference is just wonderful!! At the close of this Sunday morning session, the words to my favorite song came to mind, “Here’s my heart, O take and seal it…” Oh, how I didn’t want to lose all that had just been felt, seen, and heard! If it could just be sealed into my heart and mind!

Here’s a few of the favorite things I heard and felt:
Starting with the opening prayer which included praying for a spirit of comfort, correction, and direction–so much included in those three words.

Elder Packer talking about this wonderful church unique in its way of involvement of the members leading to an endless supply of leaders throughout the world.

Spencer J. Condie telling us when “heaven’s promises seem far off–remember Rachel.”

Deiter F. Uchtdorf–the gospel is all truth and light!

Russell M. Ballard: What a great guideline to have on being a member missionary–I need all the help I can get! I want to really learn this well!

Joseph B. Wirthlin: He is wonderful! Charity, the greatest thing of all. I can’t wait to study and ponder this one. It seemed so comprehensive on the subject of love–which I can always use more help in obtaining.

Keith K. Hilbig: “Quench not the Spirit.” One of my very favorite talks. We need to invest more in the things of eternity in order to merit the increased presence of the Holy Ghost. New understanding will come. Satan’s efforts are continual. We need the continual influence of the Spirit.

Elder Holland: I loved this one! We believe the Godhead–God, the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost–to be one in every aspect nearly, except in one person of substance. How did such an incomprehensible view of God ever happen as has happened? No wonder so many in the United States are losing faith in their religions as was reported on NBC’s national news broadcast this week. I hope many tuned in to conference and felt the Spirit!

Elder Eyring, Elder Cook, Sister Beck, Elder Bednar, President Hinkley–all wonderful messages! It’s almost time for the next and last session,~sigh~and I want to go ahead and post this.

And the closing hymn–”How Firm a Foundation!” How I love it and was hoping, maybe they would sing all seven verses, but at least they did do verse seven–how wonderful!!
